laptop but at nine hundred pounds or thousand dollars it's certainly ain't. thousand dollars it's certainly ain't cheap so what are you actually going to. cheap so what are you actually going to get for your money well you can get a. get for your money well you can get a laptop in various configurations but. laptop in various configurations but this one has a scar like I 5 6300 hq8. this one has a scar like I 5 6300 hq8 gigabytes of RAM a 15.6 inch 1080p. gigabytes of RAM a 15.6 inch 1080p full-hd screen and importantly a. full-hd screen and importantly a dedicated 960 m nvidia graphics card the.
dedicated 960 m nvidia graphics card the 960 s fairly mid-range and mobile. 960 s fairly mid-range and mobile graphics cards are significantly less. graphics cards are significantly less powerful than their desktop counterparts. powerful than their desktop counterparts but it's actually surprisingly capable. but it's actually surprisingly capable the laptop dynamically switches between. the laptop dynamically switches between the integrated graphics chip and the. the integrated graphics chip and the dedicated card depending on whether it's.
dedicated card depending on whether it's plugged into the charger so as you can. plugged into the charger so as you can see I'm playing hitman it's currently. see I'm playing hitman it's currently running on the integrated chip on medium. running on the integrated chip on medium settings it's pretty unplayable we're. settings it's pretty unplayable we're lucky if we get double-digit frame rates. lucky if we get double-digit frame rates but then what what happens when I plug. but then what what happens when I plug the laptop in the 960m kicks in and wow. the laptop in the 960m kicks in and wow what a difference a solid 40 to 45. what a difference a solid 40 to 45 frames per second totally playable. frames per second totally playable even though hitman is quite a demanding.
even though hitman is quite a demanding game the 960m is definitely a mid-range. game the 960m is definitely a mid-range car but it's so much better than. car but it's so much better than integrated graphics and as you expect. integrated graphics and as you expect for a gaming laptop it makes games. for a gaming laptop it makes games absolutely playable fallout 4 at max. absolutely playable fallout 4 at max settings running at the laptops native.
settings running at the laptops native TV resolution also runs fairly smoothly. TV resolution also runs fairly smoothly at around 30 frames per second although. at around 30 frames per second although I prefer to lower the settings a bit or. I prefer to lower the settings a bit or maybe drop the Reds down to 720p to. maybe drop the Reds down to 720p to boost the framerate but it's totally. boost the framerate but it's totally playable at max settings and shows just. playable at max settings and shows just how powerful the 960m and this laptop is. how powerful the 960m and this laptop is for gaming but as well as having a. for gaming but as well as having a dedicated graphics card what makes this. dedicated graphics card what makes this laptop feel fast in just general use is.
laptop feel fast in just general use is its solid state drive this model has a. its solid state drive this model has a 120 gigabyte SSD and a one terabyte hard. 120 gigabyte SSD and a one terabyte hard drive which is a great combination of. drive which is a great combination of speed and storage space Windows is. speed and storage space Windows is installed on the SSDs and boot times and. installed on the SSDs and boot times and generally using Windows feels fast and.
generally using Windows feels fast and responsive while you can still install. responsive while you can still install all your Steam games and put your videos. all your Steam games and put your videos on the main hard drive but what really. on the main hard drive but what really lets the laptop down is it's screen it. lets the laptop down is it's screen it is TCP which I do appreciate is sort of. is TCP which I do appreciate is sort of the best resolution you want. the best resolution you want for gaming because anything like a quad.

HD or 4k resolution would just completely destroy your framerate so for. completely destroy your framerate so for the 960m the chain to be res is exactly. the 960m the chain to be res is exactly what you want but even though it's a. what you want but even though it's a matte panel which I do like its TN so as. matte panel which I do like its TN so as you can see the viewing angles are.
you can see the viewing angles are pretty atrocious unless you're looking. pretty atrocious unless you're looking at absolutely dead on the brightness. at absolutely dead on the brightness just goes horrible colors fade is pretty. just goes horrible colors fade is pretty awful but even when you are in this. awful but even when you are in this sweet spot looking at it there's just. sweet spot looking at it there's just new vibrancy or pop to the colors. new vibrancy or pop to the colors looking at the screen even a few degrees. looking at the screen even a few degrees off-center just you know radically. off-center just you know radically alters the color accuracy is quite badly.
alters the color accuracy is quite badly it's such a shame I definitely prefer to. it's such a shame I definitely prefer to have perhaps a HDMI out to an external. have perhaps a HDMI out to an external monitor rather than playing on the. monitor rather than playing on the laptop itself I'm also not really a fan. laptop itself I'm also not really a fan of the laptops design I don't mind this. of the laptops design I don't mind this bit so much the isuzu rogue it looks. bit so much the isuzu rogue it looks quite stylish but it's got a cheap.
quite stylish but it's got a cheap plastic texture it's just a little bit. plastic texture it's just a little bit plasticky and tachy at 2.6 kilograms. plasticky and tachy at 2.6 kilograms it's actually not unreasonably heavy for. it's actually not unreasonably heavy for a gaming laptop so you could definitely. a gaming laptop so you could definitely put this in your backpack but it's still. put this in your backpack but it's still pretty chunky the bezels are quite big. pretty chunky the bezels are quite big and you know with a poor display as well.
and you know with a poor display as well the whole thing just feels and looks a. the whole thing just feels and looks a bit cheap that's a battery life it's not. bit cheap that's a battery life it's not actually too bad I had this fully. actually too bad I had this fully charged open net flix and played an hour. charged open net flix and played an hour of film and then after an hour it had. of film and then after an hour it had dropped 20% so you can get about 5 hours. dropped 20% so you can get about 5 hours of video watching from this and around 3. of video watching from this and around 3 hours of general web browsing and office.
hours of general web browsing and office use and perhaps and listening to music. use and perhaps and listening to music as well if you want to game without the. as well if you want to game without the power plugged in which I wouldn't. power plugged in which I wouldn't recommend you only get about an hour or. recommend you only get about an hour or two an hour and a half tops but I think. two an hour and a half tops but I think pretty much if you're going to be gaming. pretty much if you're going to be gaming on this you will want the battery. on this you will want the battery plugged in but even though the laptop. plugged in but even though the laptop doesn't feel or even look that great. doesn't feel or even look that great I do actually quite like the trackpad. I do actually quite like the trackpad and the keyboard the red backlit chiclet.
and the keyboard the red backlit chiclet style keys are comfortable easy to type. style keys are comfortable easy to type on there's a good amount of travel as. on there's a good amount of travel as well but they do feel a little bit. well but they do feel a little bit spongy the big glass trackpad on the. spongy the big glass trackpad on the other hand is really good there are a. other hand is really good there are a few Windows laptops that have a nice. few Windows laptops that have a nice trackpad like this so that's really. trackpad like this so that's really pleasing to see also sound quality a. pleasing to see also sound quality a good pair of headphones will always be.
good pair of headphones will always be your best option. your best option but the built-in speakers aren't too. but the built-in speakers aren't too badly three ready focus I can't pressure. badly three ready focus I can't pressure and of course downward duck we're gonna. and of course downward duck we're gonna come in again. if I'm honest I'm not completely sold on the idea of gaming laptops but there is. the idea of gaming laptops but there is a market for them and if you are looking. a market for them and if you are looking to buy a new one I don't think I could. to buy a new one I don't think I could recommend this as soos gl-5 to VW the.
